Data protection for cleaners: keys, codes and client details
Client addresses, schedules, keys and alarm codes are personal data, and valuable to burglars. Keep only what you need, keep it secure, and check whether you need to pay the ICO fee.
Key and code rules
- Never label keys with names or addresses; use codes.
- Never keep alarm codes with keys.
- Sign keys in and out if you have staff.
- Return keys promptly when a client leaves.
The ICO fee
Most organisations and sole traders processing personal data electronically must pay an annual data protection fee unless exempt. Use the ICO's self-assessment to check.
